The S2e Chat Room is an environment that allows a teacher to use behavioural modelling, both good and bad, to teach students how to make informed decisions when using digital communication technologies.

The S2e Chat Room application can be used in a variety of ways to simulate the unique characteristics of the Internet and related technologies including:

• Information is stored for ever and can never be deleted
• You do not know, for certain, who someone really is
• Information we create can be viewed by employers, predators, Police, others
• Blocking (Teaching students to defend themselves when using DCT)

Themes and lessons played out; modelling

The teacher uses the S2e environment by adapting it for students to experience, in role play, various situations that young people find themselves in when using DCT.

Rehearsal of real world situations

The S2e Chat Room allows the student to experience the difference between making good and bad decisions in a safe and collaborative environment. The simulated situations reflect real world situations young people will be exposed to and facilitate behavioural rehearsal of possible responses. The experiencing occurs with the sense of real time pressures.

Scenario based leaning

The S2e Chat Room is versatile and can be used to simulate numerous situations commonly associated with young people and DCT. The S2e Chat Room allows teachers to repeatedly demonstrate risky behaviour and the consequences using role played scenario based learning.

S2e Interactive classroom presentations

S2e have developed a range of presentations that engage and challenge the student to consider actions and consequences. Students are encouraged to participate in group and class wide debates. These presentations support and provide additional rehearsal of the learning outcomes achieved in the S2e Chat Room.
