Protecting and Valuing Identity...an ethical approach to supporting a digital life (Values Based Education)
4 Hour modules, delivered 1 hour per week or format to suit. Available to Primary, Intermediate and College age students. This education provides students with education that protects them today and helps them act with thought for their own futures, safeguarding their opportunities to find suitable employment along with protecting their reputations. To develop both the understandings and the skills required to use the Internet appropriately in order to reduce the chances for harm to occur to the student, their family and friends.
We can also deliver in 1 day or format to suit.
One-on-one workshops
These workshops can be delivered in a dedicated time frame of 4 hours. This may include follow-up visits to monitor progress. In some cases the focus is on helping an individual to remove themselves from inappropriate relationships or situations which have been enabled by the use of DCTs. In many cases the individuals do not believe they are being targeted or have the potential to be abused. In these situations we work with them to change those beliefs.
Group workshops
These educational workshops are provided to minimise the need for "One-on-one workshops" They allow for up to 25 young people under 16 at a time. The module is 4 to 6 hours in duration delivered in one day or scheduled to suit.
Individual family workshops
This involves educating the whole family. This module lasts 4 to 6 hours and focuses attention on the responsibility family members have for helping to keep each other safe as well as themselves. Typically these workshops are required when one or more members have exposed the whole family to elements of risk.
Parent Workshops
These workshops raise awareness to the dangers associated with the inappropriate use of Digital Communication Technology (DCT’s). Solutions to reduce risk are discussed and debated with the parents. Normally 2 hours long, including question time.
Professional Development for teachers
These workshops raise awareness for teachers to the dangers associated with the inappropriate use of Digital Communication Technology within schools. Solutions to reduce risk are discussed and debated with the teachers. Normally 2 hours long, including question time.
YMCA Youth Workshops
This module is designed specifically for students 16 and under who are unable to learn in mainstream schooling. Students learn about the impact of inappropriate communication across digital networks and learn how to communicate appropriately and positively in these mediums. Students become aware of their actions towards others when using digital environments positively or negatively, and the harmful consequences of negative use in both the present and in the future. Topics include future proofing students for employment and the harmful effects of sexting.
